Questioning Multiculturalism
Stuart Hall

Introduction In this lecture delivered at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Stuart Hall, a prominent British journalist and commentator, considers the problem of multiculturalism as formulated by professor Bhikhu Parekh in his recent book Rethinking Multiculturalism. Hall argues that the notion of a single 'ism', a single political or cultural strategy towards the complex situations in which people who have to live together from different cultural, social and religious backgrounds find themselves, seems to be quite wrong. There may be many multicultural situations, but there certainly isn't one multiculturalism.
