Perspectives on Multiculturalism
Yasmin Alibhai-Brown

Introduction In this lecture delivered at the London School of Economics and Political Science, prominent journalist and broadcaster Yasmin Alibhai-Brown considers the nature of cultural identity in Britain. She argues that the old vocabulary of multiculturalism is woefully inadequate in a world where cultural identity is being challenged by trends ranging from Americanization to globalization. "Multiculturalism" has acquired a set of values which serve to limit rather than expand people's self conception.
